Bartlett's Anthias
Snapshot: The males of this dazzling species strut their stuff with bold, electric violet bodies streaked by a vibrant yellow that runs along their backs. Females, rock a more subtle but equally stunning look: soft lavender with sunshine-yellow backs.
Other tidbits: Can grow up to 9cm or so. Distributed throughout the regions of the Pacific Ocean. These anthias do best in small groups.
Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish-only system or reef aquarium.
Aquarium set-up: This species loves to keep it low-key, so toss in some awesome hideouts — like cozy spots between live rocks — for maximum chill vibes. Add in strong water movement with a powerhead or wavemaker, and keep your water quality high — these beauties are reef royalty and expect palace-level conditions. Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.
Feeding: Anthias thrive on variety, gobbling up frozen mysis shrimp and enriched brine shrimp. Over time, sprinkle in high-quality flake foods in small doses throughout the day. But for the pièce de résistance, set up a refugium packed with copepods and amphipods— an endless buffet of live treats for these lively planktivores.
AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
