Blacksaddle Filefish

Blacksaddle Filefish

Snapshot: Also known as the Mimic Saddle Puffer or False Puffer. It is a crafty filefish that mimics the Valentini Puffer's shape and colors to fool predators into thinking it's not worth the effort. With dark brown bands, brownish-orange spots, bright yellow fins, and cool blue stripes along its back, this fish is a true aquatic trickster!

Other tidbits: Can grow up to 11cm or so. Distributed throughout the East Indian Ocean, West Indian Ocean, Australia, Japan, Indonesia, East Pacific, Central/West Pacific Oceans.

Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish-only system, or reef aquarium with care.

  • Aquarium set-up: This species craves cozy hideouts, like snug spots between live rocks, to chill and feel safe. Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.

Feeding: This fish loves to chow down and needs to be fed multiple times a day, especially when it's just moved into its new pad.

AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
