Black Velvet Angelfish

Black Velvet Angelfish

Snapshot: This fish rocks a bold black vibe with a splash of gray on its head and the upper body, like it's wearing a sleek, shadowy suit. The tail and the back fin’s tips pop with a yellow outline.

Other tidbits: Can grow up to 20cm or so. Distributed throughout the East Indian Ocean, Australia, Japan, and Indonesia.

Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish-only system, fish-only system, or reef aquarium with care. Mature and well established aquariums only. This beauty is shy and elusive, it might take its sweet time to settle into the scene.

  • Aquarium set-up:  Include plenty of live-rock for hiding and grazing. These fish thrive in a well-oiled tank, cruising the rocks and stones like a gourmet, grazing on algae like it’s a never-ending salad bar. It also demands top-tier water quality, like the VIP treatment of the reef. That means the water’s gotta be properly oxygenated, like it's breathing easy at a luxury spa, so maintain that aquatic utopia well.

Feeding: Angelfish are omnivorous champs. Keep 'em happy with a smorgasbord of high-quality marine flakes, nutrient-rich algae like nori, live treats, and frozen crustaceans like brine or mysis shrimp, and top-notch frozen blends.

AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
