Coral Rabbitfish
Snapshot: This vibrant orange-yellow rabbitfish dazzles with tiny blue spots and a mysterious dark smudge around its eye.
Other tidbits: Can grow up to 35cm or so. Distributed throughout the Indo-Western Pacific Ocean and the Great Barrier Reef. When threatened, they pull a disappearing act by hiding next to rocks and switching up their colors and patterns — looking “ill” is just their slick camouflage in action!
Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish-only system, or reef aquarium with care. Wear gloves when handling, their venomous spines can inflict painful injuries. These are your go-to algae assassins, tackling pesky bubble algae like champs!
Aquarium set-up: Have a tank on the larger side - this species loves to swim freely, so it needs a spacious aquarium to really show off its moves! Provide plenty of hiding spots using live rock. Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.
Feeding: Rabbitfish will devour algae strips with gusto, crunch on seaweed pellets for a taste of the sea, enjoy high-quality marine flakes and savour live foods like krill for a protein boost. It also indulges in fresh vegetables!
AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
