Dusky Fairy Wrasse
Snapshot: A dazzling little show-off in a suit of electric blue, with a smoky brown top coat that fades into its upper body. Males bring the fashion fireworks with bold colors and flowing, elongated fins, while females keep it low-key but still chic.
Other tidbits: Can grow up to 7cm or so. Distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific region including across the Red Sea and the Pacific Ocean and East Africa. When danger rolls in, this wrasse flips the switch and changes color like a reef ninja, blending into coral crevices and ghosting predators in style.
Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish only system or reef aquarium. Thick, sandy substrate.
Acquarium set-up: You'll need lots of space, decked out with ample live rock for hideouts and hunting. Wrasses love their comfort — give them a cozy fine sandbed to burrow into when they need a snooze or sense trouble. And don't forget a secure lid — they're jumpers! Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine water changes.
Feeding: Keep your Wrasse in top form with a gourmet diet of vitamin-enriched frozen mysis and brine shrimp, alongside high-quality marine flakes and pellets.
