Fu Manchu Lionfish
Snapshot: Also known as the Twinspot or Ocellated Lionfish, this fish rocks bold red, white, and black vertical stripes like it owns the reef runway. With oversized, fan-like pectoral fins and tall, spiky dorsal quills, it’s pure underwater drama.
Other tidbits: Can grow up to 13cm or so. Distributed throughout the East Indian Ocean, West Indian Ocean, Australia, Indonesia, East Pacific, Central/West Pacific. hose top spines pack venom with a punch stronger than a bee sting.
Bare bones must know: Best suited to a live-rock fish-only system.
Aquarium set-up: Set up your aquarium with loads of caves and hidey spots. This majesty is a bit of a recluse at first and loves to lurk while settling in. Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.
Feeding: Live saltwater feeder shrimp are the ultimate “dinner bell”. Once it’s in the groove, the Fu Manchu Lionfish is all about that meaty menu: live shrimp (yep, even the fancy ornamental ones aren’t safe), small live fish, and chunks of juicy crustacean goodness.
AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
