Longnose Hawkfish
Snapshot: This beauty rocks a white bod with bold red stripes slashing both ways. Its elongated snout is unmistakable, while dorsal fin spines amp up its cool factor.
Other tidbits: Can grow up to 13cm or so. Range extends from the Red Sea, through the Indian Ocean to the eastern Pacific seaboard. Like a statue, this hawkfish prefers to perch motionless on aquarium decor, keeping an eye on all the action.
Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish-only system, fish-only system, or reef aquarium with care.
Aquarium set-up: Deck out your tank with ample rock formations, including sea fans and corals, offering prime perching and hiding spots. And don't forget your lid, the Longnosed Hawkfish has a reputation for jumping! Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.
Feeding: Hawkfish are chow hounds, readily devouring dried or frozen fare. Think frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, and hearty crustacean chunks (like live feeder shrimp) to keep these carnivores satisfied.
