Magma Fairy Wrasse
Snapshot: With its molten-red hues and lava-inspired glow, it's no mystery why this wrasse rocks the name “Magma Fairy.”
Other tidbits: Can grow up to 7cm or so. Distributed throughout the volcanic reef slopes of the Northern Philippines. Officially named Cirrhilabrus Shutmani, this beauty pays tribute to Barnett Shutman, the man behind the lens and the specimens that helped put this fish on the marine biology map.
Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish only system or reef aquarium. Thick, sandy substrate.
Acquarium set-up: Give it a groovy underwater setup: live rock for hiding, open water for cruising, and solid filtration to keep things fresh. It’s mostly reef-safe but might get cheeky with tiny ornamental inverts, so keep an eye out. Wrasses love their comfort — give them a cozy fine sandbed to burrow into when they need a snooze or sense trouble. And don’t forget that tight-fitting lid — this wrasse has some serious hops. Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine water changes.
Feeding: Keep your Wrasse in top form with a gourmet diet of vitamin-enriched frozen mysis and brine shrimp, alongside high-quality marine flakes and pellets.
AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
