Psychedelic Mandarin
Snapshot: Rockin’ a psychedelic mix of electric blue, fiery orange, and inky black spots over a trippy green base, this fish is pure underwater disco.
Other tidbits: Can grow up to 6cm or so. Distributed throughout the waters of Australia and Indonesia.
Bare bones must know: Live-rock fish only system, or reef aquarium with plenty of live rock and sand.
Aquarium set-up: This species vibes best in a tank loaded with live rock — think buffet on the rocks. Make sure the pod party’s in full swing before inviting this picky guest to the scene. This species craves cozy hideaways — like a VIP spot tucked between the live rocks, away from the spotlight. Maintain an aquatic utopia by nailing the basics: rock-solid water quality with top-notch filtration and routine partial water changes.
Feeding: Got a small or new tank? You’ll need to step up the game with live zooplankton — it's a lot of effort for this fish to truly thrive. Some might eventually learn to munch on frozen food, but don’t count on it being enough — only the finest, most varied options will do. They’re not exactly quick to grab a bite in the water, especially if they’re not feelin' it. Patience is key with this species. It devours vitamin-enriched live brine shrimp, black worms, and hunts down natural prey on live rock and sand.
AQT note: All our fish feast on a diet of seaweed, marine pellets, flakes and frozen treats under our care. Keep the feast going in your tank!
